My first professional projects: our idea was to break into the market with a game that would put our skills and knowledge to the test.
That’s why we chose this genre, a boss rush, because it offered the right balance between enemy programming, technical skills, and combat/enemy design.
Game Genre
3rd person Boss Rush game featuring fast paced melee combat against unique bosses,
punctuated by exploration segments that gradually unveil the captivating story of the isolated city-state of Haze.
Duties
-
Market analysis research, including the search for the player type
-
Designer of all three enemy bosses
-
Gameplay loop
-
Design of the main game mechanic "Overheat"
-
Playtesting and Localisation
-
Created the environments of the second Boss arena, the City and the Villa
-
Created almost all the VFX in game, with Niagara tool, which is present in Unreal Engine. Sword slash, environmental particles, flames and smoke, air slash and Lady B's ground attack and much more
Gameplay Design
Our main inspiration was Sekiro; we aimed for similar gameplay, that is fast-paced and "up-close" combat where players could feel the impact of every strike and parry.
To enhance this feeling, we designed the "Overheat system"; every time the player hit or parries, the temperature of the sword rises, increasing attack speed, on-hit self-healing and continuous boss stuns.
Game Loops
Study of gameplay loops, with at positive, core loops and habit loop.
